Golf Commission, What Golf Commission?

Extra Extras is a new section comprised of items that don't necessarily rise to the level of a story, but make for compelling, uplifting or scandalous reading!

Mayor Randy, well, how to put this gently: he might want to check the record on his testimony in golf pro Don Frost's trial last month. When asked by defense attorney Alan Winik why he disbanded the city's golf commission, an adhoc oversight group of citizens and electeds, Frederick's mayor denied he'd heard of the golf commission until last year.

"I learned about it in the last year...I asked the purpose of it and was told there was no need for it," the mayor told Winik. He was, he said, not aware of anyone who served on the commission.

City emails, procured through a public information request [thanks, City] indicate otherwise. An exchange between the mayor and former parks director Roelkey Myers, one of three casualties in the Clustered Spires fiasco, and City Attorney Saundra Nickols, show that the mayor asked about the golf commission in 2011. Myers provided a list of members and the purpose. Read the original email here from the bottom up.
