Dems Start Campaign School

Register by Jan. 24 for Jan. 27 Campaign School at Hood College

Since the 2017 Women’s March one year ago, people have been looking for ways to volunteer and make a difference. Myrna Whitworth, chair of the Democratic Party in Frederick, said, “Groups of people call me almost daily about volunteer opportunities. I have spoken to many of the Frederick groups, and we are working hard to provide meaningful ways to get involved.”

As the 2018 election season begins, more and more Democrats are considering a run for public office. Here in Frederick, 40 people attended an exploratory workshop with the Democratic Central Committee to talk about running locally. Many of the people who attended had never run for office before. To meet the needs of first-time and experienced candidates, Frederick Democrats have scheduled a free, day-long campaign school at Hood College’s Whitaker Campus Center on Jan. 27, 2018, with sessions from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Running for public office requires candidates to follow state and local election regulations, including finance laws. Candidates also need to determine how best to introduce themselves and their message to the voters, how to use the voter database, how to put together a campaign team, and more. The campaign school will cover all of these topics, as well as calculating a “win number,” fundraising, working with other candidates, and more, with breakout sessions facilitated by experts from the Maryland Democratic Party and local public officials who have wo elections here in Frederick County.

The deadline for registering for this event is Jan. 24, 2018. To reserve your space, or for more information, email the Democratic Central Committee at info@frederickdemocrats.org, or call 240-288-1148. If attendance at other events is any indication, this school will be packed.
