What Moms really want for Mother’s Day

Hint: It isn’t flowers or chocolate!

Mother’s Day is coming, and while flowers, a pedicure, and a box of chocolates are lovely they are not what moms yearn for the most. We live, parent, work, and love in an increasingly busy, harsh, and disconnected culture. We take it for granted that this is just the way life is today, but what if it didn’t have to be? Imagine you as a mom, or the mom in your life, being able to slow down, to connect with compassion to your own heart and dear ones, and to live your everyday life according to what is most sacred to you.

Lisa McCrohan is a writer, a somatic psychotherapist, and a compassion coach based in Frederick, Md. Lisa has worked for more than 20 years in the world of wellness at universities, nonprofits, churches, and counseling centers. She holds master's degrees in clinical social work and pastoral ministry from Boston College, and advanced training in mindfulness, trauma recovery, and yoga. Her mission is to inspire people to follow what delights their hearts, to heal the hurry and to let their light shine.

A mom to two young children herself, she knows what moms really want for Mother’s Day - and every other day of their lives! Moms want to feel connected to their families, to other moms, and to their own truest self. They want to have the spaciousness to reflect on what truly matters in their lives, what brings them delight, and how they can spend more of their time focused there instead of on hurrying from one thing on the to-do list, to another.

Lisa decided to take her own advice and a year ago made the decision to honor the voice that had been saying for years, “You need to write!” Lisa’s recently completed book, Gems of Delight: Seasonal inspiration for moms to heal the hurry and embrace what is sacred, is filled with poems, conversations with God, and soulful reflections on the joys and the challenges of motherhood today.

She encourages her readers to slow down, listen to their own hearts, and to honor what they hear. Following the rhythms of the seasons, “Gems of Delight” can become a companion for the year, inspiring a journey from busyness to pausing, harshness to compassion, and disconnection to connection.

To raise the money for the publication of the book Lisa launched a Kickstarter campaign, which was fully funded in the first 15 hours. With the project funded, the book will be released in early May. To learn more about the Kickstarter campaign, or preorder Gems of Delight, visit here.
