Hough Working for Old Boss

Thor himself, aka Eric Beasley, spilled the news today that Sen. Michael Hough [R-Dist. 4] has taken on the job of chief of staff to Rep. Alex Mooney [R-WV 2nd District], the Bud Otis, if you will, to Mooney’s Congressman Roscoe Bartlett. Beasley, host of Thor at Four on 1450 AM The Source, posted the story here.

Hough confirmed the story with The Frederick Extra, and said that he took the job a mere month ago. His new job will not interfere with his role as state senator, he said, in a text message. “In Maryland we are citizen legislators [and] the majority of us have full-time jobs when we are not serving in the 90-day legislative session in Annapolis.”

For seven years, Hough said, he worked full-time for ALEC, the American Legislative Exchange Council [photo left, courtesy of ALEC], and later for the Faith & Freedom Coalition. For at least part of the time Mooney served as a Maryland state senator [1998 - 2010], Hough worked as his legislative aide.

Brian W. Chatwin, Mooney’s previous chief of staff, started on Jan.1, 2015, and earned $120,000 a year, close to median salary for House chief of staff. Ted Dacey, who served as campaign manager for Mooney and for his brother, Frederick Alderman Phil Dacey, is Mooney’s communications director.
