Carla Harris, Presidential appointee and chair of the National Women's Business Council has worked on Wall Street for 30 years. She shared her pearls of wisdom at the 2nd Annual Morgan Stanley speaker series with 200 women Thursday at Musket Ridge Golf Club in Myersville. She began in song as her mellifluous voice subtly illustrated why her Carnegie Hall concerts have sold out five times. Music is the way she breaks the ice and connects with people and she had the crowd under her spell from the first note. As a motivational speaker, few can match her warmth, humor and mission to keep it real. In business she advised to be a risk taker. "Keeping your head down will not keep you from getting shot. Better to keep your head up and watch for the bullet," Harris said. "Fear has no place in your success equation."
Harris spoke at length on what is to be learned from failure and rising with resilience is what matters. "Each failure is a blessing. Take the blessing of the lesson and move on. The message is in the mess. Don't carry the baggage of your mistakes and ask yourself what did you learn?" More of Carla Harris's pearls are available in her two books Expect to Win and Strategize to Win.
